The Journey To Find The Compass Within
I never really felt lost in the physical world. My sense of goos direction has always kept me going, and finding my way in new places, new countries and with new people, has never been hard.
But we always have new lessons to learn, and the only way to do that, is by walking into the shadows and getting lost. So far, I’ve discovered a few tricks to return to the light. I either keep walking out of sheer willpower until I get to the light, or I create the light myself, from within.
Both way have taught me a lot about myself:
My willpower will carry me to the end of the world and beyond.
My inner fire can lit up the whole Universe if I allow it.
Of course, learning these truths about myself was not easy. And there is no final destination on this journey, the journey IS the destination (cliche, I know!)
During the darkest times, I desperately looked outside of myself for answers. Oracles, rituals, altars, books, therapies, numerology, metaphysics, and much more. I was all over the place, and as expected, nothing worked. If anything, all the new knowledge I acquired only overwhelmed me even more. I understood where I was in my mind, but I was not giving my heart and my body the time they needed to understand, accept and integrate. I kept running into walls, the ones I built myself.
I still remember the night when my perspective changed. It had been a few weeks since I finished a very profound mentorship on energy alignment. At this time, I was purging, healing ancestral wounds and releasing limiting beliefs that were never mine.
I was lying in bed contemplating my energy, when it happened. The knowing, The Purpose, The Everything. Putting what I experienced into words would be like building walls around it, and we all know how that goes. But later on, I found a term that does a very good job at describing it, ONENESS. I experienced.
After that night, I became more patient with my process. I finally found the place within me, where I was comfortable to allow my mind to trust my intuition. I began to notice small, steady signals, messages the Universe kept leaving for me. Like landmarks on a map that only I could read. I found them in my body, in my relationships, in my roles as a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter and as a woman. And in moments of overwhelm, I learned which direction to go within myself, to find my way back to harmony.
Below I describe my very own landmarks, and how I use them to return to my centre.
My Breath is North
When I feel lost in my thoughts, my breath becomes my True North.
This is my first landmark. Anxiety takes over my body countless times, and my breathing is always short and fast, there just isn’t enough oxygen. The only way to my North, is through slow breathing. A slow inhale reminds me: “Clarity isn’t something I find; it’s something I create”. Like wind over tall grass, my breath clears the noise and I am able to see the open path ahead.
My Heartbeat is East
My heart became my compass needle, and when it beats out of control, I know I am far from my centre. This is my second landmark. Every time I feel tightness in my chest, I take it as feedback. Finding coherence between my heart, mind and emotions allows me to listen to my truth. And when I listen, it always points towards alignment.
My Gut is South
My gut became the deep ocean inside me. It calms in truth, and rages in warning. This is my third landmark. I notice how certain choices, actions and behaviours send waves of unease through my belly, while others bring waves of quiet certainty. My gut became my inner GPS, guiding me through the storms and the stillness.
My Energy is West
Energy shifts became the environment I walk through. This is my fourth landmark.
Sometimes, I feel heavy and dense with misaligned choices. Other times, I feel a softness, a glow, as if the Universe itself is walking beside me.
Noticing these frequency and vibrational changes around and within me, has taught me when to pause, when to move, and when to simply be.
I Am The Map, I Am The Compass, I Am The Centre.
Creating a map with everything that has the power to affect my thoughts, my energy and my body has been life-changing. It allows me to trust that I can never be lost if I always know the way back to myself. This map has been a part of me from the beginning, my body has always been the compass. I only needed to learn how to use my compass to read my own map.
I hope this perspective helps you when you when life feels overwhelming. I hope it reminds you that your body holds the map home. That your breath, your heartbeat, your gut, and your energetic shifts are your compass points.
The more you listen, the more life starts to feel less like chaos and more like navigation. I’ve learned that presence isn’t about controlling or waiting out the storm, it’s about knowing where your North is, because even in the dark, it’s always within you.
With love,
