The name Flor de Maguey was born from both vision and roots. The Maguey plant, carries deep spiritual symbolism across Latin America and the Caribbean. To our ancestors, it represented resilience, protection, and sacred nourishment. A plant that gives endlessly, transforming into food, medicine, fibers, and even ritual offerings. Its flowers, rare and powerful, are a symbol of awakening, endurance, and the soul’s bloom after a long journey of growth.
The Maguey plant, also known as AGAVE, has long been regarded as a sacred plant across Latin America and the Caribbean. In Puerto Rican culture, the maguey is both protective and nurturing, a plant that withstands the sun and offers life in unexpected ways. Across Central and South America, ancient civilisations such as the Maya honoured the Maguey for its leaves, that provided fiber for clothing and rope, for its heart medicine and nourishment, and for its sap that could be fermented and turned into sacred brews used in ritual.
Among the Aztecs, it was linked to fertility, protection, and the goddess Mayahuel. She is believed to be the divine mother of nourishment and transformation, and the cycle of life and death. Her mythical transformation into the plant, whose sap provides sustenance and the fermented beverage pulque, deepens agave's sacred status as a source of life.
In the Andes and Mesoamerica, it was honored as a bridge between survival and ceremony, earth and spirit.
It was a plant of sustenance and ceremony, connecting the earthly with the divine.
Spiritually, the Maguey represents endurance, transformation, and the journey to sacred blooming. It takes many years before the plant flowers, and when it finally does, it gives everything in one radiant expression of life. This mirrors our spiritual path, one of patience, growth, and eventual blossoming into truth and light.
During a craniosacral session, guided by a very dear spiritual elder, I received a vision of the maguey in full bloom. In that moment, I didn’t understood its message. It wasn’t until I decided to walk the path of helping others using my gifts, that it became clear. That just like the maguey flower, spiritual blossoming happens after deep cycles of growth, patience, and inner transformation. So I named my journey Flor de Maguey, this translates to Agave Flower.
Over the years, Flor de Maguey has become a reflection of my path, a journey of healing, and spiritual empowerment. It honors my Caribbean heritage while carrying the universal truth that we are all capable of unfolding into our fullest light, when we are deeply grounded and rise with intention.
